Joshua Prescott secured his first national boxing title after three days of gruelling competition at the Cosmic Boxing Gym in Marabella. Prescott was able to dominate his opponents with evasive counter attacks which earned him the nick-name “Crouching Tiger” from the event announcer due to his low stance and powerful combinations. He was able to defeat the division’s home town favourite by unanimous decision in the final after winning quarter and semi-final matches the two previous days.

Fellow teammate Brandon La Croix took home third after mounting a strong come-back in his semi-final bout but failed to sway the judges and lost by split decision. Unfortunately fellow team members and defending national champions Omar Smith and Randy Sooknarine were unable to defend their titles due to a lack of participants in this years event, also unable to make their debut were Ronaldo Diaz and Hezron Melville. The event was hosted by Trinidad and Tobago Amateur Boxing Association and was used to choose members of the National Team for up-coming olympic qualifiers.
