Matthew Vilain recently concluded his first Wrestling Season finishing with a 10-3 record competing for the University of New Brunswick in Canada. Matthew started preparing for the season in mid September 2016 after recently choosing to pursue a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Vilain competed in a total of three tournaments between January and March. His first tournament was January 28th at the University of New Brunswick Open where he entered the 76 kg division placing 3rd in his first tournament. This was followed by the Eastern Canadian Championship (76 kg) where he also picked up another medal placing third. His last tournament of the season was on March 25 at the New Brunswick Open going 4-1 winning all by pin and his one lose by way of points.

To cap off a successful season Vilain spent one week at the world renouned Renzo Gracie MMA Academy located in New York. Matthew spent the week doing brazilian jiu-jitsu and submission wrestling while training with several top world ranked MMA fighters, grapplers and BJJ practioners.
